Govt doctors postpone their strike

PNS

Following assurance by the state Health and Family Welfare Minister Surjit Jayani of looking into various complaints including poor infrastructure and heavy work load by the Government doctors, a strike, to begin from Friday, has been called off, at least for the time being.

The doctors have been protesting under the banner of Punjab Civil Medical Services Specialist Doctors’ (PCMS) Association.

“On the assurance given by Health Minister, the government doctors have decided in public interest to defer strike, which was to start from November 28,” said the Association’s official statement.

PCMS Association State president Dr Kashmir Singh Sohal and ludhiana district president Dr Avinash Jindal said that they have apprised the Health Minister that doctors in civil hospitals are overburdened and there is a shortage of paramedical staff to assist them. Also, the infrastructure in Government hospitals cannot be compared with big private hospitals.
