Punjab Police on Tuesday arrested Category-A gangster Shubham Singh — wanted in the murder case of Amritsar-based Hindu Sangarash Sena leader Vipin Sharma from Amritsar, and his accomplice Manpreet Manna “after exchange of fire in Batala”.
Shubham had killed Amritsar municipal councillor Gurdeep Pehalwan and Hindu Sangarash Sena leader Vipin Sharma
Police have recovered five pistols from Shubham’s possessions, including one .12 bore pistol.
Following Shubam’s arrest, the state Director General of Police Dinkar Gupta tweeted: “Gurdaspur police have arrested Shubam, a most wanted gangster from Amritsar. He had shot dead Vipin Sharm, president, Hindu Sangarash Sena on October 21, 2017. He was arrested after exchange of fire in Batala.
In October 2017, 42-year-old HSS’s Amritsar district president Vipan Sharma was shot dead in broad daylight in Bharat Nagar area of Gurdaspur near Batala road. The police had then booked gangsters — Shubham Singh, Saraj Singh Sandhu alias Mintoo, Dharminder Singh, and one more for the murder.
As per the police version, both Shubham and Saraj — main accused and conspirators — had allegedly shot Vipan while others waited for the assailants at a safer distance.
Later, Saraj also ‘confessed’ to killing Sharma in a Facebook post in November. “I killed Vipan Sharma. He got punished for his deeds as he conspired to the murder of the father of my close friend. This was unbearable….Vipan facilitated supply of weapons to the assailants of my uncle,” the Facebook post of Saraj reads. It goes on to add: “There is no religious angle to the murder and we avenged murder of my friend’s father, who was in Amritsar police.”
