A former Congress MP and four former legislators, including three from the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), on Tuesday joined Punjab’s former Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh’s newpolitical outfit — Punjab Lok Congress.

Congress’ two-time MP from Ludhiana Amrik Singh Aliwal, and Congress’ former MLA Harjinder Singh Thekedar, SAD’s former MLA Prem Mittal, SAD’s former MLA from Malerkotla Farzana Alam, and SAD’s former MLA Rajwinder Kaur Bhagike joined the party in the presence of Capt Amarinder.

Besides, former district Congress presidents — Jagmohan Sharma and Satvir Singh Palli Jhikki, and Punjab Arthiya Association’s president Vijay Kalra also came into the party fold.

Other new entrants include Sammukh Singh Mokha, Anup Singh Bhullar, Sanjeev Bittu, Ashwani Kumar, Nitin Sharma Batala, and Rajdeep Kaur from Fazilka, said the Punjab Lok Congress spokesperson.

Amarinder had quit the Congress and floated his own party following his unceremonious exit as the Punjab Chief Minister months ahead of the assembly polls in the state.

Currently, Capt Amarinder is holding talks with the BJP and also SAD’s breakaway faction SAD (Sanyukt) led by Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, to forge an alliance for 2022 state assembly polls.
