PNS

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar lal Khattar on Tuesday directed officers of the Animal Husbandry and Dairying Department to come up with good schemes for the development, preservation and conservation of indigenous breeds of cows and implementation of the ‘Rashtriya Gokul Mission’.

Presiding over a review meeting of the Animal Husbandry and Dairying Department here, the Chief Minister said that there was immense potential for enhancing the productivity of indigenous breeds in the State. The ‘Rashtriya Gokul Mission’ which seeks to protect the indigenous breeds of cows in a focused and scientific manner, is a project under the National Programme for Bovine Breeding and Dairy Development.

During 2014-15, a sum of Rs150 crore will be allocated for the Mission. The Chief Minister also directed the officers to provide best facilities for cattle-rearing and prepare schemes to draw the maximum number of people. Special incentives should be given to the farmers engaged in cattle rearing. Besides, the department should also identify areas where cow milk can be procured.

He also asked them to materialise the system of procurement-processing and marketing of dairy products and find out the possibilities for their promotion by mutual functioning with Amul. Directions were issued for filling the post of animal attendants and sweeper-cum-chowkidar in the department under the outsourcing policy until regular employees joined. This will ensure that services at veterinary institutes provided by the department are not hampered.

Manohar lal also suggested that possibilities be explored for engaging people, especially women, in rearing of five or more cattle under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme. This initiative would help empower women. Animal Husbandry and Dairying Minister, OP Dhankhar, directed the officers to monitor the affairs of Gauchar land and take up the issue with the Development and Panchayat Department. He said the Government plans to bring a Bill on cow slaughter.
