Jannayak Janta Party, a splinter group of Indian National Lok Dal, has been registered as a political party by the Election Commission of India.
The party has received its registration documents from the Election Commission.
The JJP had come into existence in December following a split in the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), after a bitter power struggle between Ajay Chautala and Abhay Singh Chautala, the grandsons of Devi Lal who had founded the INLD.
INLD’s chief OP Chautala’s elder son- Ajay Singh Chautala -is patron of the JJP while his two sons–Hisar MP Dushyant and INSO chief Digvijay-are spearheading the party in the absence of Ajay, who is serving a 10-year jail term in connection with the teachers recruitment scam in Haryana.
JJP is seen as a strong player in state politics and is likely to eat into INLD’s Jat vote bank in the general elections.
In 90-member Haryana Assembly, INLD has 17 MLAs, out of which four has announced support to JJP. Many INLD leaders and workers have also joined the JJP in the past two months.
Hisar MP and JJP leader Dushyant Chautala on Tuesday said, we are hopeful to get a party symbol this week. The party has submitted a list of ten party symbols to the EC, he said.
Dushyant said that the JJP will contest its maiden election on all 10 Lok Sabha seats in Haryana. Earlier in Jind bypolls, the JJP supported candidate had contested as an independent but had managed to get second spot ahead of grand old political parties in the state, he said.
Notably, following Aam Aadmi Party’s support to JJP in Jind bypoll held in January, it was widely believed that the two parties would enter into an alliance for the Lok Sabha polls and Haryana Assembly polls scheduled to be held later this year.
However, both the parties have so far failed to reach an agreement on seat-sharing pact. While the JJP has been offering the AAP two seats out of 10 in Lok Sabha and 20 out of 90 Assembly seats in Haryana, the AAP had been demanding equal representation in seat-sharing.
