Haryana Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki on Sunday said that the drugs are more dangerous than poison because their addiction not only plays havoc with our health but also mars our character. Solanki, speaking at one-day seminar on Drugs & Abuse Of Women organised by the Forum for Awareness of National Security in Panchkula, said “the Prime Minister Narendra Modi too had said that money made from drug smuggling was being used to encourage terrorist activities, which is a matter of great concern.”
“According to a survey, about 15 to 20 years ago only one person among 300 was found to be a drug addict. But today, one out of every 20 persons is an addict. The scenario in metro cities is much worse as six men and four women out of every ten persons are found hooked to drugs,” pointed Solanki, adding that spreading awareness against the menace is the only way out of the situation. Participation of people in the campaign is more important than the Government in spreading awareness, the Governor said. The Forum should associate maximum number of people with it so that the awareness drive takes the form of a public movement, he added.
Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju, who was the chief guest, said that drugs posed a big challenge before the country. “In order to take people out of the grip of drug addiction, a drive should be launched in which people from all social organisations should come together and support the formation of a healthy society,” he said. “More than 90 per cent of the smuggling relates to drugs which weaken the very foundation of the nation by ruining the youth of the country,” he said. The main aim of organising the seminar is to put an end to the evil of drug addiction in the society and spread awareness against the abuse of women.
