A mishap which could have marred solemnity of the snan of Ardh Kumbh Mela on Maha Shivaratri held on Monday in Haridwar was averted as a 51-year old person named Ved Prakash from Faridabad, being swept away at Gau ghat by the eddies towards the danger zones of Ganga, was rescued by water police stationed at the ghat in the nick of time. Eyewitnesses said Ved Prakash had slipped into river while he was taking bath. IG (Ardh Kumbh) GS Martolia said a water police team led by water police platoon commander Sohan Pasbola dived after they had seen a person slipping, he added.
