Dharmendra asks son Sunny Deol to learn from Mann in politics

PNS

Bollywood yesteryears’ superstar Dharmendra has a word of advice for his actor-son Sunny Deol, who has just started his political career winning Gurdaspur seat from Punjab during the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections.

The ‘Garam Dharam’, as Dharmendra is also known as, has asked his son to “learn something” from Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Bhagwant Mann.

Dharmendra, who had also taken a political plunge and elected as BJP MP from Bikaner in Rajasthan in 2004, showered praises on AAP MP from Sangrur Bhagwant Mann for making a “sacrifice, to serve mother India”.

At the same time, the octogenarian actor has addressed the comedian-turned-actor Mann as “son-like”.

“Sunny, My son try to learn something from My son like, Bhagwant Mann, MP from Sangrur. What a sacrifice, to serve mother India. Jeete raho Mann, Bahut, Bahut maan hai mujhe app par,” tweeted the actor.

His tweet was in response to a tweet from a twiterratti, @iamSunnyTakher, who had earlier posted Sunny Deol’s photos with a comment saying, “looking so Dashing” at Mumbai airport.

But, Dharmendra’s tweet has left everyone confused with users asking the actor to specify what “sacrifice” Mann has made for “saving” the country. While some have pointed at Mann’s decision to shun liquor as “sacrifice”, others indicated at leaving his career as popular comedian and joining politics for people’s interest.

However, Dharamendra’s tweet came at a time when his political greenhorn son, Sunny Deol, had recently faced severe criticism for appointing a film writer and a non-political man as his representative “to follow important matters pertaining to the Gurdaspur parliament constituency”.

Sunny Deol, who was promptly trolled by critics, especially the Congress, said that it was “extremely unfortunate to see a controversy being created out of nothing at all”. Before that, Sunny faced people’s ire for vacationing in the cool environs of Kaza after winning the elections, while the people in his constituency were facing problems.

The actor is also among those celebrity lawmakers who have, so far, registered below 50 per cent attendance in parliament. He has attended only five of 13 days.

Sunny Deol joined the BJP weeks before the national election and was fielded from Gurdaspur in Punjab, a constituency held earlier by filmstar Vinod Khanna. The 62-year-old actor defeated the Congress’ sitting MP Sunil Jakhar of the Congress by more than 77,000 votes.
