On the last day of campaigning for the Delhi Assembly polls, Dera Sacha Sauda on Thursday pledged its full support to the Bharatiya Janata Party. The polls are scheduled to be held on February 7 in the 70 Assembly constituencies in Delhi.

“Our senior members in all the 70 Assembly constituencies of Delhi on Thursday conveyed the decision of Dera’s full support to BJP candidates”, said Pradeep Insaan, national president of political wing of Dera Sacha Sauda, Sirsa.

Facing tough fight from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the national capital, the saffron party candidates, now in Delhi Assembly polls will get an additional support Earlier, Dera had announced support to BJP candidates in the lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections in the Haryana and Maharashtra in 2014 and BJP won there. Dera’s support in Haryana tilted the balance and BJP won for the first time. The State has a large number of Dera followers.

Claiming to have 20-22 lakh followers in Delhi alone including 10-12 lakh voters, Pradeep Insaan said our followers and voters will not only vote for BJP candidates in the Assembly polls there but also ask their friends to choose their candidates for upcoming Delhi Assembly.

On Thursday evening, the poll campaign came to an end in Delhi and now door to door canvassing has begun in which Dera followers have an edge.  “Our mammoth following in the Delhi, especially the areas attached to National Capital Region (NCR), will start door to door canvassing for the BJP candidates there”, said the dera spokesperson.

Asked why is the Dera supporting BJP, he said this was the only party which has announced to deliver “clean and good governance”.  “Moreover, Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself has adopted those burning issues, including Swachchhata Abhiyan, ‘stop female feoticide’ and ‘no to drugs’ etc., which are already being taken up by the Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh for the last so many decades across the country”, said Pradeep Insaan.

He said we had asked all the candidates of various parties to fill up the affidavits for clean and good governance besides taking up those issues which are to remove social evil in the society and BJP candidates gave the maximum affidavits to us in which they had assured to do such things.
