It’s official now. India’s national capital —Delhi has become the infamous transit centre for procurement of illegal narcotic drugs to be supplied in Chandigarh and Punjab. The new revelation was confirmed in an investigations by Chandigarh police involving some Nigerian nationals in drug peddling in the region.

Ironically, despite nabbing several Nigerian nationals involved in drug peddling in the recent months, the city police have failed to nab the kingpin involved in the drug peddling rackets in Chandigarh and Delhi.

Police officials here claimed that interrogation of a Nigerian drug peddler Dav-otokhinea, arrested last week, revealed that Chandigarh and Punjab region received cocaine from Delhi.

Though police have caught several of drug peddlers in the recent past but the Kingpin remains out of police reach.

Dav-otokhinea, who was arrested with cocaine worth Rs5 lakh from near ISBT Sector-17 on Friday night, revealed during police investigation that he had been involved in drug peddling for a long time in Chandigarh region. He also admitted that he bought the drug consignment from Delhi to deliver it to customers in Chandigarh.

Investigating Officer of crime branch, Rajbir Singh said, “Dav was residing in a rented accommodation at Zirakpur. He has been involved in drug peddling since 2008 when he was caught by UT police under Foreign Act and later released.”

In another such incident, Cyril Archipang, a wanted drug peddler of Delhi, who was arrested with cocaine worth Rs1crore from his possession in March, also admitted that he received the drug consignment from Delhi and he had to deliver it to his client at railway station of Chandigarh.

Samson Ogana, another Nigerian native, who was caught with cocaine worth Rs4 lakh from village Daria of Chandigarh, had admitted that he bought the cocaine from Delhi and was caught by police while he was going to deliver it to one of his clients in Panchkula. Police further identified two areas of Delhi, including Tilak Nagar and the area surrounding Mother Dairy in East Delhi for conducting raids on his statements.

Earlier in June, Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) officials arrested a 32-year-old Nigerian Joel John Oreno with drugs at Sector-21 and recovered drugs worth crores in the international market. The arrested accused, Oreno also had been living in a rented house in Zirakpur and confessed in the interrogation that he received the consignment from another Nigerian smuggler who had come to the city from Delhi.

Talking to The Pioneer, RP Upadhyaya, Inspector General of Chandigarh police said, “A team of Chandigarh cops had conducted raids at various places in Delhi, however they couldn’t find anything during the raids on the clue given by previously arrested drug peddlers to the UT police. But the investigation to search the kingpin and bust the gang is in process.”
