Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar will inaugurate country’s first institution of its kind — Mai Bhago Armed Forces Preparatory Institute at Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar (Mohali) — on July 25.

Parrikar on Thursday confirmed his participation in the event while accepting the personal invitation extended by Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.

“The Union Defence Minister confirmed his program to Badal on telephone. The state government is organizing a mega function for the inauguration of state-of-the-art Institute in which thousands of ex-servicemen, serving defence personnel besides prominent dignitaries would attend this prestigious event,” said a spokesperson of the Chief Minister’s Office.

He said that all the Chiefs of the Armed Forces have been extended invitation by the Chief Minister to participate in the function to make it a memorable event.

The upcoming Institute, to impart specialized training exclusively to the female aspirants across the state to serve in the nation’s armed forces, has been set up on the lines of already existing Maharaja Ranjit Singh Armed Forces Preparatory Institute at Mohali for the boys by the Punjab Government.
