Waking a bit too late after an 83-year-old man committed suicide over delay in disbursement of his old age pension, the Punjab Government on Monday directed all the Deputy Commissioners to ensure timely disbursement of the pensions.
Also, the State Government released Rs84 crore for the disbursement of about 19.82 lakh beneficiaries across the State. Besides, the State Finance Department has also sanctioned approximately Rs200 crore to be disbursed as old age pensions to the identified and eligible beneficiaries up to March 31.
The DCs have been asked to submit the compliance report by April 23 in the Social Security Department. They have also been asked to ensure that the amount be given to the beneficiaries alone and be deposited in their bank accounts.
