In a new initiative aimed at felicitating the dedicated and hard working teachers of Government schools, Punjab Government has decided to amend the criteria of selecting the awardees for State-level teachers’ day function by choosing 25 per cent of them on the basis of their day-to-day performance.
Education Minister Daljit Singh Cheema on Wednesday said that it has came to his notice many hard working teachers shy away from applying these awards given by the State Government every year to recognise the tremendous efforts made by teaching fraternity in providing quality education to the students.
He said that despite of their glorious track record in the field of the Education many teachers do not apply for his award due to which their marvelous contribution remains unnoticed. However, he said that as it was the bounden duty of the State Government to acknowledge the contribution of these teachers, so the Punjab government has now decided to select 25% of awardees honored during State-level Teachers’ day on the basis of their day-to-day performance.
Cheema said that contrary to the earlier practice where teachers apply for the awards, 25% of the total award winners would be selected by the Education department on the basis of the performance.
The Education Minister said that the names of these teachers would be nominated by the department, which would be then analysed by the scrutiny committee for the awards before making the final list of awardees. He said that for the remaining 75% awards, the earlier practice of applying for the awards by the teachers and then the selection by scrutiny committee would be followed. “Our main aim is to ensure that the services of those teachers who work dedicatedly for imparting quality education to the students in government schools is recognised” added Cheema.
