Coordination panel announced, Capt out

PNS

In what is being seen as an attempt by the Congress high command to send home the message of sidetracking former Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, his name has been excluded from the six-member Coordination Committee for Punjab Pradesh Congress.

“The six-member committee will be headed by General Secretary in-charge with Pradesh Coordination Committee president as convenor and Mohinder Singh Kaypee and lal Singh as members,” an official release from Congress general secretary Janardan Dwivedi stated. The approval for the panel, which will discuss all significant issues related to the party, was given on Friday by Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

The announcement is expected to have been made in view of the ensuing parliamentary polls expected to be held early next year. The panel include the names of party’s general secretary in-charge in Punjab Shakeel Ahmad, secretary in-charge Harish Chaudhary, State Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa, Congress legislative Party leader Sunil Kumar Jakhar, party Member of Parliament Mohinder Singh Kay Pee, party MlA and former Minister lal Singh.

The approval for coordination panel came a day after the Congress vice-president and party’s election campaign committee for 2014 lok Sabha polls chairman Rahul Gandhi’s visit underscored the differences between Bajwa and Capt Amarinder. The development is significant as it could signify the end of the ongoing battle for supremacy between Bajwa and Capt Amarinder.
