Congress protests against commissioner summoning MlA

PNS

Punjab Congress on Wednesday questioned the propriety of summoning of the party MlA from Fatehgarh Sahib Kuljeet Singh Nagra by the Patiala Divisional Commissioner arguing that under the protocol, MlA was above the Chief Secretary. “The action of the Parkash Singh Badal Government by entrusting enquiry into the spat between Nagra and the Fatehgarh Sahib SDM Pooja Syal recently over a public issue is in violation of all norms,” said the State Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa. He pointed out that in such cases, the authority was vested with the Vidhan Sabha Speaker and it was for this reason that the Congress had taken up this issue with him.

“This is an effort to brow beat the Opposition which would not be tolerated at any cost,” said Bajwa. He warned the Badal Government against this line of action saying that the party would not tolerate any such gross misconduct against the opposition MlAs.“The issue should be resolved at the proper forum and inquiry by the Commissioner is not the answer to this controversy,” he said while making it clear that the Congress would not allow the ruling party to lower dignity of the elected representatives of the people.
