Former Union Minister and the deputy leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha, Anand Sharma on Sunday said that the BJP is shying away from the real issues.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi is campaigning continuously while insulting opposition and speaking the kind of language that doesn’t suit a statesman of his stature at all. We want him to account for all the promises that he made before 2014 elections,” said Anand Sharma who was in Chandigarh on Sunday to campaign for Congress Lok Sabha candidate from Chandigarh, Pawan Kumar Bansal.

Sharma lamented, “Yesterday, the words he (Modi) spoke against Late PM Rajiv Gandhi are unacceptable. Narendra Modi is known for making shockingly insulting statements about his opposition.”

“Rajiv Gandhi was a martyr PM of the country. He shouldn’t forget that he was assassinated by the terrorists. He died for India while fighting terrorists. PM Modi will perhaps be the only PM of India who will go down in history as the one who dragged political discourse to a gutter level. I would like to tell him that history doesn’t forgive those who insult the martyrs of the country,” he said while talking to the mediapersons here.

Blasting Narendra Modi led BJP left, right and center over demonetization that happened in November 2016, Sharma said, “There’s been monumental mismanagement of Indian economy under the watch of PM Modi who has no understanding of economy and through his reckless decisions and authoritative functioning, he has inflicted enormous damage to the country.”

He further said, “After demonetization, hasty imposition of the flawed GST was another blunder which wiped off 2 percent of our country’s GDP. Instead of creating the promised 2 crore jobs, crores of jobs were destroyed. A large number of factories got shut down, workers were forced to return to the villages, so many people committed suicide. Further Narendra Modi even smeared the image of India by claiming that our economy is running on black money.”

The deputy leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha also mentioned that he has been campaigning all over the country and all he can see is people feeling betrayed. “People have now seen through the false promises of PM Modi. They believed in him and he has betrayed them badly. The ones who suffered the most are farmers, youth and the poor,” he said.

“Another grave issue is that in five years our PM didn’t do even a single press conference. All he did was a staged interview with an actor, Akshay Kumar, who must surely be thinking that perhaps PM Modi is even better actor than him,” Sharma added.

Talking about the recent escalation between India and Pakistan, the Congress senior leader said, “It is highly insensitive on our PM’s part to talk about the preparedness of missiles in public. No PM or President of any other country would’ve talked about such confidential matters in public. We are supposed to be a responsible nuclear state,” he said.

“Such surgical operations happened during UPA’s rule too but we never made the sacrifice of our soldiers as means to garner votes,” Sharma added.

Present among others were Pardeep Chhabra, Chandigarh Congress President and party leaders, Rana Varinder Singh, HS Lucky, Sandeep Bharadwaj.
