Congress joins traders, opposes e-trip system

Punjab Congress has joined traders and industrialists to oppose the implementation of e-trip system of tax collection in the State.

Opposing it, Punjab Congress chief Partap Singh Bajwa on Friday said that SAD-BJP Government was “vindictively hounding the business community with draconian laws and corrupt bureaucracy.”

Bajwa also made it clear that Punjab Congress stood by the business community and “will extend all possible help and support to build pressure on the State Government to withdraw imposition of e-trip in Punjab.”

“Badal Government is bringing deceptive ideas of harassing the traders rather than rationalising the tax regime and taking austerity measures to manage its bad economy,” said Bajwa while addressing a Press conference.

“I have received numerous representations from traders against implementing e-trip system of tax collection. The whole business community is up in arms against the new system and it is the duty of State Government to address their grievances,” he added.

He said that SAD-BJP government was holding `400 crore VAT refunds and was unable to curb corruption in the Excise and Taxation Department.
