Congress is a secular party, never involved in religious issues: Bajwa

PNS

Maintaining the party’s distance from Sarbat Khalsa, Punjab Congress chief Partap Singh Bajwa on Saturday reiterated his stance saying that the Congress was a secular party and is never involved in religious issues.

Downplaying the involvement of Congress leaders in the controversial Sarbat Khalsa, Bajwa said two Congress leaders attended the function, but they were not aware of the agenda of the organisers. “They went there being Sikh and just to show their solidarity with their religion,” Bajwa said, adding that even SAD leader Upkaar Singh Sandhu attended the function.

Bajwa said that the organisation of Sarbat Khalsa was due to the failed regime of the Badals. He said Punjab police is now charging those people with sedition, whom they were declaring to be nationalist a few months back.

Accusing Home Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal for intelligence failure, Bajwa said that while Punjab Police keeps tapping phones of the political opponents of its political leaders, it could not assess the agenda of the organisers of Sarbat Khalsa. He said that the intelligence failure of the State can be gauged from the fact that Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to the State and visited two cities and the security forces could know about his visit only after he reached back to his place.

For his remarks accusing RSS for communal tension in Punjab, PPCC Chief Partap Singh Bajwa said that he has got a legal notice from the RSS. Sticking to his stand, he said that he is firm on his stand and would reply to the notice appropriately.
