SAD leader Bikram Majithia on Tuesday said that the Congress party was now getting progressively panicky as besides fighting the onslaught of the SAD-BJP combine, it was facing equally lethal infighting in the higher echelons of the party.
Punjab Congress president Sunil Jakhar’s ‘Mission-13’ is going to a disaster as the situation is rapidly turning against the Congress. “Jakhar is completely rattled after Sunny Deol’s entry and is bidding his time in his constituency Gurdaspur and no more talks of his mission and is worried about his own survival,” he said, adding that after facing defeats from Ferozepur in 2014 and Abohar in 2017, Jakhar’s political future is bleak.
Majithia said that even as the trouble-shooters Capt Amarinder Singh and others have doused the outright rebellion in the party and persuaded former MPs Santosh Chaudhary and Mohinder Singh Kaypee, many other Congress leaders have not reconciled to distribution of tickets and are certain to remain inert or even hostile during the campaign.
Capt Amarinder’s threat to the party colleagues that they would lose ministerial berth if Congress candidate lost in their constituency and party legislators not ensuring victory of the party in their constituency has proved counter-productive, he added.
