A day after Youth Akali Dal (YAD) leader and his accomplices were charged with firing at their rivals in Khanna and killing a teenage boy in the incident, Punjab Congress, condemning the incident, urged the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to “ban YAD and YAD stickers on vehicles — a licence for illegitimate activities”.
The party maintained that the “broad daylight murder of a teenaged boy” has once again brought to the fore YAD’s goondaism confirming that it to be “a den of criminals and mafia”.
Congress also demanded immediate arrest of all the accused involved in the attack on two persons including 16-year-old boy.
“The way killers, after firing, brandished fire arms and challenged even the police shows the criminal mind set of Akali leaders,” said the Congress leaders.
A young boy, Kulwinder Singh of Gosla village near Khanna, died on the spot while another man in the SUV was rushed to the hospital with a bullet in the chest after YAD’s Khanna unit’s president Yadwinder Yadu fired at the car.
“This dastardly killing is not an isolated incident by YAD goons, they are time and again, indulging in murders, lawlessness and mafia activities, primarily at the behest of YAD president and the State Revenue Minister Bikram Majithia,” said the party spokesperson Sukhpal Khaira.
He alleged that Majithia has issued YAD stickers to his henchmen, “so that they can conveniently ferry drugs, firearms and other illegal material across the State. Misusing his authority, Majithia has verbally ordered the Punjab Police, not to search any vehicle with a YAD sticker on it”.
Besides seeking immediate arrest of Yadwinder Yadu and his gangsters involved in the murder, the Congress urged the Chief Minister “to intervene and reign in YAD goons letting loose terror across Punjab”.
