Cong to build memorial for the innocent people killed in Behbal Kalan firing

PNS

Punjab Congress on Sunday announced to build memorial for the “innocent” people killed in police firing in Behbal Kalan during protests against sacrilege incident, if it came to power in 2017.

Announcing, the Congress legislature Party (ClP) leader Charanjit Singh Channi assured to reopen the Behbal Kalan firing case as soon as the Congress party forms the Government in 2017, while at the same time, accusing Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal, who is also the State Home Minister, for shielding the culprits.

Channi, enroute his Jawani Sambhal Yatra on the sixth day, also met Rupinder Singh who was “framed” by the Punjab police in Behbal Kalan firing case. “Tomorrow, I am going to meet the families of both persons who were killed by the firing of the Punjab police,” he added.

Terming his yatra a big success, Channi said that the yatra got massive response from the locals and Congress leaders, especially the youth. Monday, October 3, is the last day of the yatra and will finish at Takht Sri Dam Dama Sahib in Talwandi Sabo after crossing Bhatinda town.

Also lashing out at Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal for failure to make adequate arrangements for smooth procurement of paddy, he said: “This is one government that has always failed during every procurement season, be it for wheat, paddy or cotton.”

He pointed out that the procurement operations had been the smoothest ever during all five years of the Congress rule under Capt Amarinder Singh. There was not even a single complaint not only from the farmers but every section involved in this gigantic operation, he said.

Channi said the state agencies had not entered the markets despite the procurement season having officially started from October 1. “Early maturing paddy had already started arriving in the mandis but the procurement operations are just inadequate,” he said while calling upon the farmers and all these sections associated with operations including traders to teach a lesson to Badal and his party in the forthcoming assembly election in February 2017.

He assured that the farmers would not face any hassle in the mandis under the Congress rule and the example was already there about that capacity of the party.

Channi said that the Akali Dal network instructed to supervise these operations including the MlAs and the halqa in-charges were known to be corrupt who seek share in every pie and that was one of the reasons for the harassment of farmers.
