Senior Congress leader and AICC media incharge, Randeep Singh Surjewala on Sunday lashed out at the BJP led Central and Haryana Governments saying that due to the wrong policies of the ruling Government, farmers are forced to commit suicide every day.
Surjewala while addressing a public meeting on the 75th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi at ‘new Grain Market’ in Karnal said that due to the wrong policies of the BJP government, 35 farmers are forced to commit suicide every day while the youth are disappointed and the traders are facing the recession.
The rally was organised under the aegis of ‘ Kissan Adhikaar, Naujwan Adhikaar, Vyapaari Adhikaar’ meeting. Many former ministers, MlAs including local Congress leaders attended the rally.
Surjewala said that after the failure of ‘Achhe Din’ Jumla, the ‘New India’ is the latest addition of political Jumla of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Comparing the factual data of farm produces in previous Congress government and the current BJP government, he said that the farmers are not getting due prices for Basmati rice, popular, white, wheat, maize, cotton, potato and sunflower crops. Will Modi and Khattar answer that why they did not fulfill the promises of creating two crore per annum jobs to the youth of India, he asked.
Surjewala said that Chief Minister Manohar lal Khattar has no concern with Karnal and he comes here for tourism only. The Chief Minister must be the only MlA of Haryana who does not come even once in a month in his Vidhan Sabha constituency, said the Congress leader.
He said that the businessman of Haryana had already suffering due to the GST, but now the government has imposed a trade tax on all traders and shopkeepers, which is similar to the Jajiya tax imposed by the Mughal emperors on the people.
Paying rich tributes to the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 75th birth anniversary, Surjewala said he played the pivotal role in ushering in a new era of Information Technology revolution in the country, the fruits of which were being reaped by the countrymen today.
Striking a cord with the large number of youth and women present on the occasion, he said it was Rajiv who had reduced the voting age from 21 to 18 and given constitutional provision to Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) and 33 per cent quota to women in PRIs to empower them so that they could play important role in the democratic process of the country.
He reminded that when Rajiv Gandhi visualized and implemented the Information Technology (IT), the then opposition leaders had propagandized the loss of the jobs with the advent of IT but today, the youth of India are earning name and employment at global level.
He added that Rajiv Gandhi sacrificed his life and left an indelible impression through his contributions on the lives of the people.
