Congress legislators on Thursday boycotted Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal’s reply on the issue of farming crisis and staged a walk out.

Raising the issue of a 25-year-old farmer from Bathinda who committed suicide and blamed the government for the same, the leader of Opposition Sunil Kumar Jakhar said that he want Badal to make a statement on it before proceeding with his “discourse”.

Jakhar said that he, while speaking on the issue a day before, made specific charges against the government and they wanted Chief Minister’s response to the same first.

“You give clean chit to Agriculture Minister, director, all the department officials in the spurious pesticide scam, we are ready to resign. At least clarify your stand on the same,” he demanded from the Chief Minister.

Disallowed by the Speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal, the opposition led by Jakhar staged protest and staged a walk out.

later, while speaking with the media, Jakhar reiterated the party’s stand of a CBI probe into the pesticide scam.

He also accused Badal of betraying the trust of the farmers by not putting up the state’s farmers’ demand “forcefully” with the Prime Minister and the Union Ministers.

Taking on Agriculture Minister Tota Singh, Jakhar said that he should have himself offered his resignation as he was “morally obliged” being the head of the department.
