CM: AAP's victory will not impact politics in Punjab

PNS

Noting that the people's mandate is supreme and it must be respected in a democratic set up, Punjab Chief Minister and SAD patron Parkash Singh Badal on Tuesday said AAP's victory in Delhi Assembly polls would not impact Punjab politics.

Talking to media persons on the sidelines of a private function, Badal said, “Despite the fact that AAP managed to form a government in Delhi in 2013 as well but everyone knew well what happened later.” He said that the SAD will “introspect over the factors responsible for its defeat in Delhi at party's platform”.

To a query on whether AAP will be contesting 2017 assembly elections in Punjab, Badal categorically said, “In Indian democratic system, all political parties have the right and are at liberty to contest these elections…AAP had also earlier contested the 2014 general elections across the country.” Badal said that the SAD-BJP has always worked for the welfare and overall development of the State.

CAPT CONGRATUlATES arvind KEJRIWAl

Chandigarh: Congratulating Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal for the “outstanding success” in the Delhi elections, Congress Deputy leader in the lok Sabha Capt Amarinder Singh on Tuesday hoped that he would be able to fulfill all the promises he made to the people. Punjab’s former Chief Minister also suggested the Congress rank and file that although the results were quite disappointing, there was nothing to feel demoralised about.

“Performance in one or two elections does not decide the fate of a great party like Congress that is spread across the nook and corner of the country,” he said, adding the recent electoral results notwithstanding, Congress still remains a pan-India party representing all regions and all sections of the society. He said that AAP’s victory has only reinforced the people's belief in the vibrant democracy that is India. “In fact, it is the victory of democracy,” he said.

At the same time, the senior Congress leader hoped that the AAP would be able to fulfill all the promises it made to the people before going to the elections. He said, for example, people in Delhi have now great expectations that they will soon be getting abundant and free water, free electricity and free WiFi.

MODI BAllOON BUSTED WITHIN MONTHS: BAJWA

Chandigarh: Punjab Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa on Tuesday said that Delhi assembly elections had proved that Narendra Modi wave had petered out with less than a year and this had never happened with any leader earlier.

“BJP had received a massive mandate in the lok Sabha elections who had high hopes on him but it is now clear that those hopes have been belied. People wasted no time in teaching BJP a lesson which had been resorting to divisive and regressive politics,” said Bajwa.
