A mega running event will be organised in the City Beautiful on July 6. The Chandigarh Tourism Department and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) will organise the running event under the ‘Happening Weekends of Chandigarh’ at the ground opposite Rock Garden Entrance- right at the heart of the city where the Chandigarh Marathon was held in 2013.
Puma fitness ambassador and Bollywood actress Chitrangda Singh was in the city on Thursday to launch the event-PUMA Urban Stampede- the country’s only National running property — which comes to Chandigarh for the very first time on July 6.
Chitrangda launched the race along with Darpan Kapoor — Chairman, Chandigarh Council at CII and others. The panelists spoke on the importance of running and Chandigarh as an ideal city to host a race like PUMA Urban Stampede that is open to runners of all kinds.
The PUMA Urban Stampede will have three types of races — the 5 kmX4 Corporate Relay, the largest corporate relay in the country where 4 member teams from one organisation run 5 kilometres each to complete the 20 kilometre run. The 10 kmX2 Open Challenge is for runners who want to challenge themselves a little more — where each team is comprised of 2 people who run 10 km each. The two people in these teams need not be from the same organisation. The 5k Individual Race is open to schools and colleges.
In the lead-up to the main event there will be a free run at Sukhna lake on June 29 and the main event will be held on July 6. All the participants at the event will receive a cool running T-shirt from Puma, a Rs500 gift voucher from Flipkart, finisher medal, finisher certificate, free breakfast from Costa Coffee and much more. The winners will receive winner T-shirts from Puma, winner medals, trophies and certificates. There are also attractive Puma gift cards in store for fastest woman and fastest man in the 10km and 5km relays.
The top 10 teams in the Corporate Relay (5kmX4) from each city will get a chance to compete at the national finals in Mumbai in March 2015. Winners of the National Finals (the top teams in the Men, Women and Mixed categories) will win an all-expense paid trip to the Istanbul Half-Marathon in November 2015.
Interested runners can register for the race on www.pumaurbanstampede.com. The PUMA Urban Stampede was conceptualised and launched by Runners for life in 2008 with an aim to promote running as a means to achieve fitness, especially among the corporate folk. Since then, the event has spread to other metros of the country — Hyderabad, Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Pune, Kolkata and Bangalore.
