Centre's interventin sought to end discrimination

Shiromani Akali Dal on Wednesday urged the Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Prakash Javadekar to immediately intervene to end discrimination in the evaluation of Classes X and XII examination undertaken by various State boards, CBSE and ICSE.

The party alleged that in one country, two different yard sticks were being applied causing huge damage to the students of State boards.

In this regard, a detailed letter was written by former Education Minister and SAD spokesman Daljit Singh Cheema to the Union HRD Minister seeking review of evaluation system of various state boards, CBSE and ICSE to bring uniformity in evaluation and to end injustice to the students of state boards.

Cheema mentioned that a decision was taken by the Centre after holding a national level combined meeting of all the state boards, CBSE and ICSE to stop policy of moderation throughout the country.

“The State boards have complied with the decision and many State boards including Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) have declared results without moderation. But after a Delhi High Court judgment, the CBSE has declared the result with moderation. With this, a new anomaly has developed,” he said.

Cheema said it was the responsibility of the MHRD to either challenge the decision of High Court before the appropriate authority or they should have issued directions to all state boards to give the benefit of moderation to their students.

But at present, a strange situation has developed due to which the students passing out from state boards will not be able to compete with the students from CBSE.

Similar situation will also be there when these students will apply for jobs where minimum educational qualification is either Matric or Class XII.

Cheema requested the Union Minister to immediately convene a meeting of all boards of the country and take immediate remedial measures to ensure uniformity in the evaluation system and to stop discrimination with the students of state boards.
