PNS

A day after Punjab Education Minister Daljeet Singh Cheema summoned teachers of Government schools for failing to ensure good results in the board examinations of Classes X and XII, the Haryana Government also seems to have woken up from deep slumber and swung into action following dismal results in both the classes.

Haryana Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma has directed the Education Department to carry out inspections and conduct enquiry in the schools which have witnessed poor results of Class X and XII in the first semester exams conducted by Board of School Education, Haryana (BSEH).

The overall pass percentage in the first semester of secondary exam was only 35.24 %, whereas that of the senior secondary exam was 56.75%. All Class X and XII students had failed in the semester exams in nearly 200 schools. The maximum zero-result schools are in Yammunagar district followed by Bhiwani, where the school headquarters is located.

Also, the private schools had performed better than government schools in both the classes. The private schools registered 46.44 percent overall pass percentage against 26.07 pass percentage in government schools in secondary exams. Similarly, the government schools witnessed overall pass percentage of 53.93 while it was 59.43 percent in private schools in senior secondary class.

As per the information, the state Education Minister  has expressed concern over the poor results and directed the Education Department to check 200 schools which registered pass percentage of zero. The Minister has asked to take strict action against the teachers if required for failing to ensure good results in the schools.

Following the declaration of dismal results of class X and XII last week, the Manohar lal Khattar led Haryana Government had attracted criticism from opposition for giving priorities to promoting moral education with inclusion of Gita shlokas and yoga in school syllabus instead of improving the educational infrastructure at the grass-roots level in the state.

The examinations are conducted twice in a year for class VIII, X, XII in the state. The first semester exams are held in September while second semester exams are conducted in March. The results are declared within one to two months.

Notably, Punjab Education Minister Daljeet Singh Cheema had a day before summoned 186 teachers/ of government schools for failing to ensure good results in classes X and XII. Of these 186 teachers, 32 had shown worst results with 100% failure rate.
