Captain chides Akali-BJP leaders' 'opportunist' embrace

lashing out at the SAD and BJP leaders for their “photo-shoot hugs and embraces” at the stage during the Magi Mela at Muktsar, Punjab’s former Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh on Thursday said that off-stage, they were virtually abusing each other. “The leaders of the two parties have broken all the records of opportunism,” he remarked while referring to the BJP and Akali leaders showing up together and embracing each other on the stage.

Capt Amarinder had a dig at the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal in particular for singing paeans to the BJP’s central leadership apparently in a bid to keep the party in good humour for the reasons best known to him. “This way, the two parties have only exposed themselves as people will soon be asking them as what is their respective stand on the alliance as both had conveyed it too clearly and publicly that they are not feeling comfortable with each other,” he observed, while remarking, “or possibly they have realised it now that parting ways will not do them any good so better continue to share the spoils of power as long as they can”.
