Days after 150 students of Pathankot’s Chitpurani Medical College and Hospital sat on indefinite strike, the Congress Deputy leader in the lok Sabha Capt Amarinder Singh on Thursday came in support of their demand.
The former chief minister has supported the demand for migration of these students to some other college saying that the career of 120 students was at stake and they were suffering for none of their faults.
Amritsar MP has appealed to the State Government to take a compassionate view of their case as it concerned their career. “The students got admission in 2011 after they were told that the college had got provisional approval from the Medical Council of India which would be confirmed in due course of time,” he said.
Capt Amarinder said that since the MCI had not given further approval to the college, the students have been left in lurch and they have not taken any exams after 2012.
He hoped that the Punjab Government and the Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) would take rational view of the case so that the career of the students can be saved.
The students had been blaming the state government for allegedly helping the influential management of college and not giving permission to shift them to other colleges of Punjab despite recommendations made by the Baba Farid University vice-chancellor.
BFUHS VC has written a letter to the state Principal Secretary of the Department of Medical Education and Research on August 28 and has suggested that the students should be sent to other colleges for which BFUHS requires the permission from Punjab Government, MCI and Central Government.
