In a bid to make people of Ranchi get themselves indulged into fun filled activities of their choice, Ranchi Municipal Corporation in association with Ranchi Traffic Police will observe ‘Raghgiri Day’ on Main road this Sunday between 6 am to 10 am. Through this, Ranchi Traffic Police will also try to create awareness among the people that pedestrians have the first right over roads and life could be easier and adventurous without vehicles.
A stretch of 2 km from Kutchery to Mission Chowk via Albert Ekka Chowk has been identified for the purpose which will be cleared of all traffic to give way to the fun filled activities like – cycling, skating, gaming, yoga walking or any other thing one would like to get indulge in.
“Main road on Sunday will be divided into different zones identified for skating, cycling, walking, gaming or any other sports one wants to play to keep themselves fit,” said Traffic SP Manoj Ratan Chothe. The logic behind this concept is to give space to the people for performing activities of their choice which could not be done otherwise in normal conditions, Chothe said.
“Through this we will also try to give message to the people that pedestrians have the first right over roads, but in the present scenario, the situation is almost opposite where they are t he most unsecure creatures,” said Chothe. Although, some arrangements have been made by RMC and other Non-Governmental Organizations, the organizers have appealed people to bring their sports goods along with them and make the initiative taken for the good of the society a success.
“Few by-cycles have been arranged by RMC which will be provided to the people after getting their I-cards deposited on first come first serve basis while music has been arranged by NGO ‘Bharat ki Pehchan,” said PRO Naresh Parasad of RMC.
There are also plans to set up an open gymnasium on Rahgiri day. “We are in talks with a few private firms so that people can also choose to work out during the event. This apart, we welcome live bands, yoga practitioners and artists,” added Prasad.
RMC officials got inspired for Rahgiri day from Jam@Street which was observed on February 21 drawing a crowd of over 10,000 super-excited residents, which also included Chief Minister Raghubar Das and Tata Steel MD T.V. Narendran. Hundreds of school children picked up basics of karate, boxing, roller skating, yoga and basketball from mentors of Tata Steel sports department while families gathered around food stalls enjoying peppy numbers performed by city rock bands.
