A Pakistani intruder, who was trying to sneak into India, was gunned down by the Border Security Force (BSF) in Amritsar on late Wednesday night.
The incident took place near a border outpost Naushera Dhalla in Amritsar sector of the border, just around 40 km away from Pakistan.
According to a BSF spokesperson, the intruder had crossed the border and was moving towards the barbed wire fence which comes in Indian territory.
“He was challenged by the BSF but he continued with his aggressive posture. BSF troopers then fired at him. His body was recovered on Thursday morning,” the spokesman said.
India shares 553-km international boundary with Pakistan in Punjab. This year, the BSF has seized more than 245 kg heroin along the border in the State.
