Botched up police probe: CM defends State police

PNS

Under fire for botched up police investigation in Pradyuman Thakur murder case, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar lal on Wednesday defended his State police saying, “Police did not complete its investigation as the case was handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation.”

After the CBI arrested a Class XI student of Ryan International School, Gurugram as a prime accused in the murder case, questions were raised over how the Haryana Police, which first handled the probe, made bus conductor Ashok Thakur a murderer. Reacting to the revelations by the CBI, the Chief Minister while talking to the mediapersons here said the Haryana Police did not complete its investigation into the case as it was handed over to the CBI.

Now, this is CBI’s investigation and they are  doing their work… we have nothing to do with that, he said. The CBI has declared as prime suspect a Class XI student who was earlier believed to be the first person to spot the body of Pradyuman.  The CBI has also given clean-chit to bus conductor Kumar.

When asked whether action would be taken against police officers for alleged cover-up in the murder case, Manohar lal while giving a clean chit to his Police Department said investigation was not completed by Haryana Police in this case so any such question does not arise.

Reacting to the development, BS Sandhu, Haryana DGPs said, “The CBI is probing the matter. They have picked up one person. Investigation will now depend on what CBI does.”

When asked about the earlier arrest of the bus conductor, the DGP said, “It is okay… the investigation is still going on.” Pradyuman was on September 8 this year found dead with his throat slit inside the Ryan International School’s washroom in Gurugram. The murder case had snowballed into a major national issue of safety and security of children in schools, with vociferous protests held by parents in several States.
