The farmers’ outfit, Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU), believed that the new Chief Minister of Punjab Capt Amarinder Singh would go for speedy implementation of the poll promises he made during elections pertaining to agriculture sector including debt waiver.

BKU leaders, in a special meeting chaired by its national president Bhupinder Singh Mann and Punjab unit President Baldev Singh Mianpur, also urged Capt Amarinder to continue his pro-farmer policies as he did in his last tenure, from 2002-2007.

“He had procured 10 crops of wheat and paddy without any glitch of problem to farmers,” said the BKU leaders .

“We also hope for more exemplary steps by Capt Amarinder Singh for agriculture sector as this crucial sector has virtually been crippled. Thousands of farmers have committed suicides. We have to save our farmers,” said Mann.

Mann, along with other office bearers of BKU, also extended congratulations to Capt Amarinder for a historic victory of the Congress.

They also extended deep gratitude  to BKU cadre and workers who worked tirelessly for achieving victory of Congress. BKU had extended full support to the Congress when Capt Amarinder had attended the meeting of BKU on December 26, last year to solicit its support in the

elections.

BKU led by Mann has been continuously supporting Congress since 2002, while other factions of BKU supported SAD-BJP or Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
