With the lok Sabha polls 2014 inching closer, the Chandigarh BJP has embarked upon an innovative campaign “Kamal Mehandi & Rangoli” to woo women voters of the city.

The campaign which began on Friday by the women’s wing of city BJP, aims at reaching out to large number of women folk ahead of lok Sabha elections to garner their support and apprise them about party's Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi's vision.

This door-to-door campaign “Kamal (lotus) Mehndi & Rangoli” will witness BJP women cadre visiting houses in the city and applying mehndi to draw party's symbol lotus (Kamal) on women palms and also make flower rangoli of lotus in the houses they would visit.

The party's women wing has constituted teams of women workers to cover both sectors and villages under their innovative campaigning, which would continue till the lok Sabha polls 2014. Besides applying mehndi and making rangoli, the BJP's women cadre would urge the fair sex to join the party and also support party's agenda of routing out Congress government from the city and at the Centre.

Sunita Dhawan, Chandigarh BJP Mahila Morcha (women wing) President while talking to The Pioneer said, “The party's women wing has launched “Kamal (lotus) Mehndi & Rangoli” campaign on Friday and it would continue till the elections are held.”

She said, “Under this door-to-door campaign programme, the BJP's women cadre would visit houses in the sectors and villages of Chandigarh to reach out to maximum women voters and spread awareness about the corruption in the Congress' regime.”

“In particular, the women are worst affected during UPA's regime in the country due to price rise. From vegetables to fruits, from kerosene oil to gas, everything is now out of the reach of common man. Moreover, security of women is another important issue. Taking into consideration all the main national and local issues, the women wing has planned this campaigning strategy. This campaign has been initiated with a focus to attract the women voters of the city in view of lok Sabha elections,” she added.

The party seems to be embracing all kinds of innovative ways for the electioneering ahead of upcoming high-stake political battle.

After invading the social networking platforms and marching through the streets to take their campaign against corruption and Congress to the city denizens, the BJP is also utilizing traditional means to create awareness among the masses. The street play has of late become a valuable tool for the opposition to pick apart the Congress party and former Railway Minister and local MP Pawan Kumar Bansal for alleged involvement in corruption cases.

Another campaign “Nayi Soch, Nayi Umeed, Nayi Rajneeti” was recently initiated by city's Bharatiya Janta Yuva Morcha (BJYM) to cover large crowds at major and famous spots of Chandigarh. From bus stand to railway station, college campuses to coaching institutes, shopping malls to city's Centre Sector 17, prime tourist spot Sukhna lake to city's annual festivals, the BJP youth brigade is campaigning for Narendra Modi under this campaign.

To capitalise on the issue of Railway Board Bribery Scam which resulted in local MP Bansal's resignation from Cabinet Ministry, the BJP had also organized “Jan Jagran Abhiyan” to apprize the city denizens about the involvement of local MP in several scams. From starting a signature campaign to actively making use of social networking platforms like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, the local party leaders have become proactive to take their campaign against Congress and the local MP to the large number of people ahead of the elections.
