Pulling out all the stops to ensure party’s win at Chandigarh parliamentary seat, the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) has now embarked on a novel way to woo women voters of Chandigarh.
To garner support of women voters, the Chandigarh BJP Mahila Morcha (women wing) has started approaching women at places of public gatherings including kitty parties and religious gatherings. The total number of voters in Chandigarh is pegged at 5,80,700 including 265364 female voters.
Considering their higher number in the city, the Chandigarh BJP is trying hard to woo the women voters from all section of the society. The party’s women wing leaders are organising kitty parties, meeting religious groups like kirtan mandals everyday. The women wing has constituted teams to cover various parts of the city and connect with female voters in public gatherings ahead of the polling day in Chandigarh.
While talking to The Pioneer, Sunita Dhawan, Chandigarh BJP Mahila Morcha (women wing) President said, “The party’s women cadre is holding meetings with the women voter at kitty parties, kirtans mandals of temples and Gurudwaras in Chandigarh.”
She said, “The party workers are approaching public gathering everyday. Through the ongoing ‘Ek note, Kamal par vote’ programme, the women cadre has been visiting and even organising kitty parties in Chandigarh.” During public gatherings, a pamphlet elaborating that Narendra Modi is the right choice to lead the nation as Prime Minister, is also distributed among the female voters by BJP woman cadre.
“Our aim is to reach out to women voters and apprise them about party’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi’s vision for India. The target is to connect with both housewives and working women in Chandigarh and urge them to vote for NaMo to build a strong nation,” she said.
Dhawan added, “The women are worst affected during UPA’s regime in the country due to price rise. Also, the security of women is another important issue. Taking into consideration all the main national and local issues, the women wing has planned a separate campaigning strategy to woo women voters.”
Chandigarh BJP women wing had earlier launched ‘Kamal (lotus) Mehndi & Rangoli’ campaign in Chandigarh to connect with women folk ahead of lok Sabha elections and garner support for Narendra Modi. “The party is also reaching out to the female voters through ‘Kamal (lotus) Mehndi & Rangoli’ campaign which would continue till the elections are held in Chandigarh,” said Dhawan.
Through this door-to-door campaign, the BJP women cadre is visiting door-to-door to apply mehndi to draw party’s symbol lotus (Kamal) on women palms and also, to make flower rangoli of lotus in the houses they visit. Dhawan added, “Besides applying mehndi and making rangoli, the BJP’s women cadre is urging the fair sex to join the party and also support party’s agenda of routing out Congress Government from the city and at the Centre.”
