Hi-tech and computer savvy Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has taken to social media in a big way for making the youth aware about the policies and schemes of the central Government.

With an eye on the next State assembly polls in Punjab, the party’s youth wing, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), will log-in to the cyber space to hyperlink the youth with the Government’s programmes and policies. However, BJYM’s efforts would not only be limited to Punjab, but it would be a nation-wide programme.

As a part of BJYM’s initiative, a regional workshop on Social Media, Media and Information Technology was held in Chandigarh on Friday which was attended by hundreds of party workers from the northern states, including Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh.

BJYM has recently started its nationwide program — Panch Kranti Abhiyan — with the sole aim of connecting the youth with the Government’s schemes.

Stressing on the role of country’s youth, the party’s youth wing is targeting every young member of our society to become a part of this revolution.

Under the programme, the BJYM is focussing on five key areas — Yoga Kranti (revolution in Yoga), Swachchta Kranti (Clean India), Kaushal Kranti (Skill India), Kanya-Shakti Kranti (Beti Bachaao, Beti Padhaao – save and educate girl child), and Nirman Kranti (Make in India).

“The programme, initiated by BJYM’s national president Anurag Thakur, will get a boost via social media,” said Punjab BJP president Kamal Sharma. Already, a separate web page has been dedicated for the BJYM’s initiative.

Aimed at bringing changes in the party with the changing times and keeping pace with the advancement in technology, the young saffron brigade will get connected with the masses in the cyber space through numerous social networking sites, including the Facebook, Twitter, among others.

A day-long workshop discussed at length the role of social media, the conventional media and the IT in strengthening the party among the masses, especially the youth.

In fact, the participants were given tips and training to “optimally utilize” the media tools to publicize the achievement or works of the party and also of the BJP led central government.

“BJP cadre has been asked to make the optimum use of social networking sites to send across the party’s message to the maximum people in a short span of time. In today’s time, the social media plays a significant role. It can mar and make the image of any party or an individual by just one statement,” said a senior BJP leader.

BJP leader said that the social media has the power to form a public opinion in a short time on any issue.

In today’s time, many politicians, and leaders are already active in social networking via internet — managing their Facebook pages, tweeting their mind out on Twitter, sending newsletters by way of e-mails, or getting in touch with their followers. Almost all the political parties, and even the leaders have their dedicated pages.
