Three public meetings were organized in Chandigarh by the Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday under the campaign ‘Chai pe Charcha’ to interact with the city denizens.
The public meetings were organized at Sector 61, 23 and village Daddumajra here.
The objective of these meetings is to interact with the local residents and know their thoughts and suggestions, said Chandigarh BJP chief Sanjay Tandon.
He said that the programme has become very popular with the residents of Chandigarh as it empowers them to interact directly with the party leaders and discuss the issues they face and provide suggestions for improvement in governance. This is also a platform where the party makes people aware of all the work done by the government and presents the elected government’s report card, he said.
Tandon interacted with the people and briefed them on various schemes and programs started by the BJP government for security of national interest and welfare of country’s citizens.
He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has done exceptional work to empower women. BJP Government’s ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padao’ campaign has been revolutionary in this direction. Earlier the primary education for women was limited to class 5th. Many people stopped sending women to school for various reasons, one of which was lack of toilets for women. The government has changed all this, he said.
The government has taken up the responsibility for right to education for women and providing toilets. Women do not have to go to toilet in the open. Chandigarh has been the first city in the country to completely get rid of the practice of open defecation, he added.
Tandon further said, “Under the Ujwala Yojna, free gas connections have been provided to poor women. Sukanaya Yojna has further empowered the women and girl children of the country. The rate of crime against women has gone down. With implementation of Jan Dhan yojna, the money distributed under various subsidy programs comes directly to the beneficiary’s account which earlier in the Congress times was usurped by the middlemen, he added.
The city BJP chief said, Prime Minister Modi has been working 24x7 for this country and it is time when the people of this country need to make a decision if they want the current Government to continue or bring the old Congress government which only talks and does nothing.
