BJP leaders demand probe by SC judge against Himachal CM

Former Cabinet Ministers of the BJP Thakur Gulab Singh and Thakur Mahender Singh on Thursday called upon Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi to order an independent and impartial enquiry by a sitting Supreme Court Judge into the allegations of corruption against Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh.

They said the CBI was already in possession of ample documentary evidence including a diary seized by it during an Income Tax raid conducted in the premises of a company. Both the BJP stalwarts demanded resignation of the Chief Minister during the pendency of enquiry.

“Judicial enquiry by a judge of the apex court would set the matter at rest and let Virbhadra Singh come out clean if he has really done nothing wrong. Allegations and their contradiction by Virbhadra Singh and his supporters would serve no purpose being an unending phenomenon,” they said.

The two BJP leaders said there was widespread resentment across the country ravaged by mega scams and the recent fallout was decimation of Congress in four States. “The top Congress leaders should read the writing on the wall and refrain from defending tainted persons,” they cautioned the Congress High Command.

The two former Ministers pointed out that leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley had submitted 20 crucial documents to the PM as an “unflinching and irrefutable” evidence in support of his allegations against Virbhadra. It was, therefore, paramount to hold a judicial enquiry into the serious charges of huge payoffs to the CM, they demaded.
