Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday made it clear that it is in favour of bringing some amendments in the UPA Government’s much-hyped Food Security Bill, before it was passed in both the houses of the Parliament in the monsoon session.
BJP is of the view that the Food Security Bill, if passed in its original form, may break the country’s food chain. “Without giving adequate compensation to the farmers, the Bill has the potential to break the country's food chain. When a bag of grain will be available at Rs 200 under the Food Security Bill, then why will a farmer spend six months to grow it at a cost of Rs 1,400,” BJP Kisan Morcha’s national president OP Dhankar said.
Dhankar also made it clear that the party will not support the land Acquisition Bill too in case the UPA Government did not agree to make amendments suggested by it. “We will protest against the land Acquisition Bill if our amendments are not included,” said Dhankar. He said that the party has been demanding that land be returned to its original owners if the project for which it was acquired has failed to come up within five years and land should be given on lease for projects for which it was acquired to prevent further sale.
He said that the party would protest and stir up the farmers across the nation to get their rights. For the purpose, the party would hold Kisan Adhikaar March (Farmers' Rights March) in all states in which memorandums would be submitted to the state governors. “A national charter of rights for farmers has been prepared which will include right of profit in crops, security rights in times of calamities, right to maximum loan limit and others,” he added.
