MP Pawan Kumar Bansal on Wednesday wrote to Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Shivraj Patil requesting him to direct officials concerned to allow ration cards as valid proof for residents so that they can get flats in the rehabilitation colonies.
Raising the issue of colony residents, Bansal in his letter said, “I request you to direct the concerned officials to entertain any other proof like ration cards indicating issuance of food items etc. as a valid proof to show residence in the colony in the relevant year. There
can be some other proofs available to establish continued residence in the colony, which is necessary for allotment of a rehabilitation dwelling unit. The basic tenet may not be compromised with but the wording of the Rule framed by the Administration itself should not be let to work injustice to many genuine claimants.”
Bansal said, “Recently, under the Small Flats Scheme 2006, the residents of Kuldeep Colony, Mazdoor Colony and Pandit Colony near Kajheri, Sector 52 have been served notice to vacate the same within a period of 21 days.”“In a similar exercise regarding the erstwhile colony number 5, en masse demolition ...resulted in a very large number of residents being rendered shelterless. On enquiry, it was found their cases for allotment of small flats under the scheme had not passed scrutiny on the ground that such applicants were not registered as voters in a particular year,” he said.
