With new evidence emerging in the multi-crore drug case, Punjab Congress on Tuesday demanded dismissal of the State Revenue and Public Relations Minister Bikram Singh Majithia from the Cabinet while reiterating its demand for the CBI probe.

The State Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa, in his official statement, said that the basic issue now was that Majithia’s name had appeared in the charge sheet filed by the Enforcement Directorate in Patiala Court.

“The charge sheet included the confessional statement of one of the accused Jagjit Singh Chahal stating that he had paid Rs35 lakh to the minister as what had been described as the election fund between 2007 and 2012. The money was paid to Majithia himself at his Amritsar residence,” pointed Bajwa.

Bajwa referred to the disclosures made by the other accused Manjinder Singh Bittu Aulakh in this case stating that it was Majithia who had introduced him to his NRI friend Satta who, along with two other NRIs was part of the racket.

“They stayed at Majithia’s residence and used his vehicles and security. Moreover, Majithia had also told Aulakh to help Satta and his associates in business whatever that was,” he added.

He pointed out to that part of Chahal’s statement in which he had confessed that it was Majithia who had asked him to sell pseudoephedrine to Satta which is used for manufacturing synthetic drug known as Ice. Chahal had pharmaceutical units in Himachal Pradesh.

Bajwa asserted that when such evidence had been attached by the ED in the charge sheet, the same should be deeply probed.

He reiterated the demand for handing over the investigation of Rs6000 crore racket to the CBI as “there is every apprehension of Majithia getting off the hook as his sister is a cabinet minister at the Centre. Moreover, the Government had earlier ordered the transfer of the investigating officer in this case and the order was stayed by the Punjab and Haryana High Court”.
