Punjab Congress on Monday blamed the Badals for “robbing” Amritsar of Central University by relocating it at Ghudda in Bathinda — the native village of Badals.
Senior Congress leader Bir Devinder Singh said that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had envisioned to set-up a Central University and locating the same at Amritsar about six years ago, but Chief Minister Parkash Singh
Badal “hijacked” it and took away to Bathinda.
“About six years ago, it was amply highlighted in the media that a Central University of Punjab was gifted to Amritsar by the Centre, keeping in view the global eminence of Amritsar. As a matter of fact, this idea of establishing a Central University and locating the same at Amritsar was envisioned by Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh,” said Devinder.
He added that people of Amritsar should remain vigilant and cautious about vicious and selfish designs of the ruling party, especially, Badals. “They all must unite in giving them befitting rebuff for robbing the Amritsar of Central University,” he added.
