Describing Shaheed Sewa Singh Theekriwala as a great son of the soil, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Sunday said that the countrymen were enjoying the fruits of freedom just because of supreme sacrifices made by such legendary martyrs.

Chief Minister maintained that the State Government was committed to preserve the native house of Shaheed Sewa Singh Theekriwala as a monument, and “if the house is handed over to State Government, proper care of it would be taken.” Badal, paying floral tributes to Shaheed Sewa Singh Theekriwala on his 80th death anniversary, said that these martyrs were a lighthouse for the people as they had sacrificed everything at the altar of the freedom struggle.

“Rather than bowing before atrocities of erstwhile kings and the British rule, Shaheed Theekriwala preferred to lay down his life while fighting for freedom,” he added.

Chief Minister also announced that his native village — Theekriwala — would be developed as a “model village” by the State Government. “For this, a meeting has been convened at Chandigarh on January 21,” he added.Acceding to the villagers’ demand to construct a separate high school for girls in the village, Badal said that the approval to the same would be given in the meeting of Cabinet schedule to take place on Monday in Chandigarh.
