A lady constable of Chandigarh Traffic Police committed suicide, by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her residence in Sector 39, on Friday. A suicide note has been recovered from the scene, said official sources.
The victim, Renu Devi aged 27, was first seen hanging, by her cousin brother, Pradeep, who had visited her residence from Dera Bassi in the evening. Renu was rushed to the Government Multi Specialty Hospital at Sector 16 where doctors declared her brought dead.
Meanwhile, during the preliminary investigations carried out in the matter, police have recovered a suicide note from the spot stating that she is herself is responsible for her death, said Gurmukh Singh, SHO.
Renu, a native of Gohana, Haryana, was posted as a constable at police post of Sector 61. Renu was living with her relatives. The police are investigating the matter to find the reason behind the extreme step taken by her. Police have initiated an inquest proceeding under Section 174 of Criminal Procedure Code.
On Feb 13, a lady constable of UT police, Sonam, also committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her rented room at Mani Majra. During investigation, police disclosed that she was depressed as her family had refused to marry her to her beloved.
