Punjab has learnt no lessons from recent past when a woman was beaten up by policemen in Tarn Taran as another woman was viciously beaten up with iron rods by four men in broad daylight in ludhiana.
To make the matters worse, the passersby stood as mute spectators. To top it all, the video clip, that went viral on a cyber space, was shot by one of the four men involved in beating.
The incident, which reportedly took place earlier this month, also witnessed attack on an elderly woman and another woman, who when tried to intervene, were shooed away.
Notwithstanding various measures taken up by the Punjab Government for the safety and security of women in the State, the cases of their public assault is coming to light, every now and then.
Acting swift, the Punjab Government suspended ludhiana station house officer (SHO) in the matter. The SHO allegedly refused to accept her complaint. Three arrests have also been made in the case.
The assaulted woman had allegedly asked one of the accused, Manoj, to return `20,000 which she had lent to him. Irked with this, Manoj thrashed the woman along with his friends.
“We have identified the men involved in this crime and will arrest them soon,” a police officer said.
The woman alleged that the police did not register a case till Tuesday.
It was only after the footage was circulated, action was taken against the culprits.
