A day after senior Congress leader Darshan Singh Brar and his son Kamaljit Brar were booked for allegedly outraging the modesty of former minister and senior Congress leader Malti Thapar, the State party chief Capt Amarinder Singh on Tuesday ordered internal party inquiry, headed by party’s PCC senior vice-president laal Singh.
laal Singh has been asked to submit his report in the matter within one week. Darshan Brar is Capt Amarinder’s staunch loyalist.
Thapar, in her written complaint, had alleged that the father-son duo had “insulted” her by passing “sexual remarks” and “hurling abuses”. Acting on her complaint, a case has been registered under sections 354-A (outraging modesty), 509 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against them at Moga City-I police station.
Thapar alleged that the incident took place during the Congress protest against the Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the National Herald case on December 19.
“Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Capt Amarinder Singh on Tuesday ordered an inquiry into the allegations and spat between party leaders Dr Malti Thapar, Darshan Singh Brar and his son Kamaljeet Singh Brar in Moga on December 19,” read the official statement.
It added that an internal party inquiry has been ordered by the PCC president to be headed by PCC senior vice president laal Singh after the reports on the issue appeared in the media on Tuesday.
“So far, none of the leaders has approached the PCC president and the matter came to his notice through the newspaper reports today only,” it stated.
Capt Amarinder has appealed to the concerned party leaders to exercise restraint. “The matter will be properly inquired into and both sides will be given proper hearing,” it stated, adding that once the inquiry is completed, further action will be taken in the matter.
