Amarinder asks Badal to clarify stand on Jat quota

PNS

All India Jat Maha Sabha president and senior Congress leader Amarinder Singh on Friday asked Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to clarify his stand on inclusion of Jat community in the list of Other Backward Classes (OBCs).

Amarinder accused Badal of “double standards” saying that on one hand, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) passed a unanimous resolution seeking reservation for Jats in Punjab, while on the other, the State Government has not taken any initiative to follow up what the party has unanimously resolved.

The former Chief Minister, in a statement, alleged that Badal was not keen on ensuring quota for Jats in Punjab and warned that he would be responsible if they get the benefit of reservation.

Amarinder had maintained that it was mandatory for the States, which want reservation, to recommend it to the Centre. But, the Akali Government in Punjab had not made any such recommendation as a result of which the Jats in Punjab could not get the benefits which the people in nine other States got.

The Congress leader had also claimed that he had written to the Chief Minister asking him to recommend the reservation for Jats over a month back.

The Sabha chief reiterated that the Badal must make mandatory move so that the process can be completed at the Central Government level, so that jats in Punjab would get benefit.
