One of the accused in Abohar Dalit murder case, Amit Doda, has surrendered before the police. His uncle and Akali leader Shiv lal Doda, the main accused in the case, is yet to be arrested.
Amit Doda surrendered before SP at Abohar police headquarters on Saturday night, while Shiv lal Doda has not been arrested so far. The police have so far arrested 13 persons in the case.
DIG Ferozepur Range, Amar Singh Chahal said that efforts are being made to nab Shiv lal.
A day before, the Punjab Police had issued a look out circular against Shiv lal Doda and his nephew Amit Doda in the case. They have been booked for a conspiracy in connection with the murder of a 27-year-old Dalit man, Bhim Sain Tank, whose limbs were chopped off by suspected henchmen of a liquor baron in Abohar on December 11.
Meanwhile, National Scheduled Caste Commission vice-chairman Raj Kumar Verka instructed the state police chief to provide security cover to both the families of Bheem and Gurjant, the survivor of the attack.
“There were inputs that the accused might eliminate witnesses so it’s important to ensure their security,” Verka said.
