UT police arrested a 35 year-old accountant who allegedly stole his own car which was impounded by Traffic police officials during a check post at Sector 23, on Sunday night.
Jitender Chaudhary, who is a resident of sector-37 and an accountant by profession, was found drunk while he was stopped at a traffic check post at Sector 23 and police impounded his vehicle.
After fulfilling the formalities, his i-10 car bearing Chandigarh registration number (1246) was parked near the check post and when officials were busy checking other vehicles, he fled away with his car by using duplicate key.
However officials managed to nab him from near Batra Cinema, said Inspector Jaspal Singh who was heading the check post on Sunday night.
A case under section 379 and 411 of IPC has been registered against him. Jitender was produced in the court where he was sent to judicial custody.
