An alleged leak of a Whatsapp chat group of Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Punjab leaders went viral on the social media on Wednesday wherein the top rung leaders were allegedly discussing ways to generate funds for the elections and increase the party’s support base by cashing in on Bargari-like incidents.

Dubbing it “politically motivated” and a “pack of lies”, AAP has as described it as a “vilification campaign against the party and its leaders by certain vested interest”. Party MLA Prof Baljinder Kaur said the chat was “fake”. Meanwhile, AAP has also announced to lodge a complaint with the police against a website for uploading screenshot of an allegedly fake chat.

Taking a serious note of it and rubbishing it as a “wild propaganda against some leaders”, AAP’s state unit legal wing head and party spokesperson Jastaj Singh Arora said that it was orchestrated against the party as a well-thought out design to defame AAP.  Arora said that AAP’s roaring victory and crushing defeat of the Congress party in the recently-held Panchayat poll in the State, and the success of the Barnala massive rally had devastated the other parties to the hilt, and they were resorting to such cheap political gimmicks.

Warning all those behind such element to desist from perpetuating the sinister campaign against the party, he said that in case it did not stop, the party is free to take a legal recourse. “Legal action would also be initiated against the websites involved in the false propaganda,” he added. Earlier in the day, screenshots of a whatsapp chat group was circulating on the social media, alleged to be of the AAP leaders including Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann, Talwandi Sabo MLA Prof Baljinder Kaur and Punjab affairs in-charge Manish Sisodia, discussing how to generate funds and how to increase the party’s support base.
